Atwood Park
Atwood Street Newburyport, MA

Covering just 0.7 acres in size, this park was established in 1976 on the grounds once occupied by the former Jackman School. It's conveniently situated between Atwood and School streets, a mere block to the east of Federal Street. While Atwood Park may not claim the title of the city's oldest or largest park, it carries an abundance of historical significance among the community's twenty-four recreational havens.

Garrison Gardens, a charming section within the park, boasts meticulous landscaping with an array of flowers, shrubs, and a brick pathway flanked by four benches. This delightful addition replaced a largely neglected tennis court and has been widely regarded as a substantial improvement. Although a half-court basketball court still remains, mainly frequented by neighborhood youngsters, a significant portion of the park's grounds serves as a favored spot for residents to stroll with their dogs or find respite on one of its inviting benches.
